Mindful Eating
Bringing calm and presence into each meal
In the rush of modern life, we often eat our meals in a hurry while scrolling our phones, replying to messages, or finishing work. At times, we eat while feeling anxious, stressed, or unsettled, which not only affects digestion but also makes it hard to build an intimate and harmonious relationship with food.
Mindful eating invites us to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with our food, so that every meal becomes a nourishing moment for both body and mind. Before eating, pause for a few breaths. Gently remind yourself: “Let me set aside all worries and work, so that I can fully enjoy the food.” This helps prepare the body and mind to receive nourishment.
While eating, practice engaging our five senses, including eyes, nose, tongue, ears and body, to fully enjoy the food. A mindful meal only takes about 20 to 30 minutes, which is enough time to soften the tension in our body and mind. When we can enjoy our food with calmness, presence, and gratitude, every meal can become a loving moment of self-care.
